The Difference Between Dig Pink® and Volley for the Cure™

Dig Pink® campaigns benefit The Side-Out Foundation and Volley for the Cure™ events benefit Susan G. Komen.

Side-Out was started by Rick Dunetz when he was the head volleyball coach at West Springfield High School in Springfield, VA in 2004.  We are a small organization headquartered in Fairfax, VA, although there are staff members located in MD and NE and several of them have a direct connection to volleyball.

There are many wonderful breast cancer organizations. Side-Out is unique in many ways. Its focus on youth education and empowerment, and its ability to unite the volleyball community through Dig Pink® are what make it truley a special foundation.

Additionally, Side-Out has its own board of directors and scientific advisers, and it closely monitors the research it chooses to fund. Side-Out is also unique in that it focuses on funding for stage IV breast cancer (the most aggressive and least funded area of breast cancer). This research is called the Side-Out Protocol and it is funded entirely by the volleyball community!

We also welcome suggestions for organizations and research our Dig Pink® participants value, and we offer to donate 25% of the funds you raise to a local patient support organization through our giveback program.

In addition to funding research, Side-Out offers team fundraising awards as well as scholarship and community service awards to students who organize and involve their communities in educational and fundraising events for breast cancer.
