No, Dig Pink® events benefit The Side-Out Foundation and Volley for the Cure™ events benefit Susan G. Komen.
Side-Out was started by Rick Dunetz when he was the head volleyball coach at West Springfield High School in Springfield, VA in 2004. We are a small organization headquartered in Fairfax, VA, although there are staff members located in MD and NE and several of them have a direct connection to volleyball.
There are many wonderful breast cancer organizations. Side-Out is unique in that it focuses on involving youths, and most events surround the sport of volleyball. It has its own board of directors and scientific advisers, and it closely monitors the research it chooses to fund. Side-Out is also unique in that it focuses on funding for stage IV breast cancer. The Side-Out Protocol was funded entirely by volleyball players and fans! We also welcome suggestions for organizations and research you consider valuable, and we offer to donate 25% of the funds you raise to a local support organization.
In addition to funding research, Side-Out offers team fundraising awards as well as scholarship and community service awards to students who organize and involve their communities in educational and fundraising events for breast cancer.
